missions & boys.

"When I was 19, my girlfriend and I were going to study in Paris. Our boyfriends came to the docks to see us off. Right as we were getting on the ship, my friend’s boyfriend said to her: ‘If you go, I won’t wait for you.’ So she turned around and decided to stay. My fiance saw this and told me: ‘I won’t wait for you either.’
I said: ‘Don’t!’”

This just makes me laugh, and maybe it's the answer for some of us missionaries and maybe it's not.

The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault & Its Campaigns to Prevent Sexual Violence

The statistics of sexual assault are alarming and terrifying.

The real, personal stories of victims of sexual assault is even more alarming and terrifying.

Thank you for creating a task force specifically to protect students from sexual assault.

Thank you for doing something to the show the country that this is an important matter.
Thank you for doing something that educates the public and helps heal the ever-present rape culture.
Thank you for standing up for what is right.

may i rant a moment?

I greatly dislike it when female missionaries are referred to as "sister missionaries".

It would be okay if the male missionaries are referred to as "elder missionaries", but in my experience they're usually not.

Often times it seems to be the missionaries and the sister missionaries.

No.

It makes me a little sick to be "the other".

When I am working in the ER, I would never say "Your woman doctor is going to see you in a few minutes."

No.

Am I explaining myself well?

Here.
Look:

    ♀

 Doctor                          Doctor

 Artist                          Artist

Teacher                     Teacher

Lawyer                      Lawyer

Nurse                       Nurse

Soldier                       Soldier

Astronaut                  Astronaut

Missionary                 Missionary

Do whatever you want.

Say whatever you want.

Being referred to as a "sister missionary" instead of a "missionary" will not hurt my feelings.

I am just throwing my ideas out into the world

and letting you know that as a woman preparing to serve a mission, I feel a great deal more of respect being referred to as a missionary.

"Feminism is Having a Wardrobe Malfunction" by Megan Rosalarian Gedris

I LOVE this cartoon...

I think feminism should be about allowing women to have the space and ability in society to do whatever they want to do in their life.

I do not think feminism should be about flip-flopping from women being expected to cook, clean and care for kids in the home and being judged for leaving the home to work to expecting women to work outside the home and judging them when they choose to stay at home. This applies to every choice a woman makes in her life -- her clothes, her career, family planning, etc.

If we combat societal expectations with more societal expectations, we are not solving the problem.
